A Detective's duties include, but are not limited to:
Directing Law Enforcement patrol activities Investigating traffic accidents Directing Police service activities Responding to offenses against persons and property Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques Conducting complex investigations Working with outside agency's in cooperative investigations Interviewing suspects in major crimes. Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-07 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-06. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. Note:

Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-06 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
experience that provided knowledge of a body of basic laws and regulations, law enforcement operations, practices, and techniques and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force; through service as a military police officer; in work providing visitor protection and law enforcement in parks, forests, or other natural resource or recreational environments; in performing criminal investigative duties; or in other work that provided the required knowledge and skills. There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level for the Police Officer position. You will be rated on the following Competencies for this position:

Physical Requirements:

Conditions of Employment:
Firearms:
Must be qualified to carry firearms and maintain firearm proficiency. Incumbent will be required to carry a firearm while performing duties and maintain firearm proficiency. As a condition of continued employment as a VA Police Officer, the officer must (1) achieve and maintain qualification in the use of the agency approved firearm; (2) must successfully complete an initial and annual psychological assessment and physical; and (3) must successfully complete the Basic Police Officer Training Course (at the Law Enforcement Training Center) and its Physical Fitness Test.This position requires a Background Investigation. Incumbent will be required to sign a statement indicating that they understand that the investigation results must be favorable in order to remain in this position. Psychological Assessment:
Applicants will be required to take an initial and annual psychological assessment of their emotional and mental stability by a psychiatrist or psychologist. Any emotional or mental condition which could cause the applicant/officer to be a hazard to others or self during stress situations and physical altercations will disqualify. The psychological assessment will consist of a structured interview and a standardized objective written psychological testing by a police psychologist or psychiatrist. Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
