Air Cond Equip Mechanic

Duties include but may not be limited to the following:
Operates air conditioning according to standard operating procedures, ensuring the equipment works properly; and observes safe operating procedures to prevent damage to equipment and materials. Repairs walk-in and reach-in refrigerators, domestic refrigerators, deep freezers, soda fountains, blood bank refrigerators, ice machines, water coolers, water towers and connecting pumps, compressed air and vacuum systems, etc. Maintains proper operation of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment; and uses good judgment in emergencies. Performs preventive maintenance inspections, records the results, and implements corrective action when necessary to minimize downtime of equipment. Installs or removes existing equipment. Performs work from instructions, work orders, blueprints, or project specifications. Maintains air conditioning records in log books and data sheets. Reads blueprints and calculates heat loads; and has a general knowledge of electrical systems. Prepares orders for materials or services as required. Work Schedule:

Experience:
A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT:
Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements:
The position meets the WG-10 grade level as the PD outlines the physical effort as making repairs and installations from ladders, scaffolding and platforms where the parts of systems worked on are frequently in hard-to-reach places; therefore, stooping, stretching, bending, and kneeling are frequently required. The employee frequently carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions:
The working conditions of the position meets the WG-10 grade level where the work is required to be performed inside and outside, on top of buildings, in drafty attic spaces, and in cramped areas with low overheads. The position is subject to exposure from toxic refrigerants and often will be required to wear personal protective equipment while performing certain tasks.
