AIRCRAFT WORKER

As a AIRCRAFT WORKER, WG-8852-5/8, duties include:
(1) Performs aircraft repair duties on the flight line as required. Assists aircrews in preparing their aircraft for flight. Provides auxiliary power unit (APU) and fireguard support, favoring aircrew without crew chiefs when more than one aircraft is departing at the same time. Provides advice and/or assistance to aircrew in those instances where aircraft system malfunctions are delaying aircraft departure, utilizing mechanical knowledge. Advises supervisor of malfunctions,which threaten to cause undue delay or cancellation of flights scheduled, as soon as possible. (2) Assists the technician operating the fuel dispensing equipment in transferring and/or circulating jet turbine fuel, extracting fuel samples, performing equipment maintenance, and otherwise preparing to provide refueling service for the day. Serves as alternate refueler when incumbent is not available to function in this regular capacity, or as directed by supervisor. (3) Coordinates each morning with Flight Operations personnel concerning all flights scheduled for that day. After determining proposed departure and arrival times, composition of aircrews. and any special requirements involved, provides, on a priority basis, that service/assistance which will most benefit or expedite ongoing flight operations. Advises supervisor in those instances when additional flight line assistance is needed to meet requirements in a timely manner. (4) Meets arriving aircraft. Discusses assistance/service requirements with aircrew and determines whether aircraft discrepancies have materialized during the flight. Relays specifics to supervisor as scion as possible. (5) Checks all aircraft parked outside prior to cessation of operations each day to ensure that all tiedowns and covers are properly installed and secured, that batteries are disconnected, that any ignition/security lock keys or logbooks found in the aircraft are turned into Flight Operations, and that all security locks are in place and secured. Checks all aircraft parked outside at the beginning of each workday to ensure that all tiedowns and covers are still properly installed and secured. (6) Inventories all aircraft parked outside, as well as those parked in the hangar, to ensure that all aircraft supported by the AASF are properly accounted for. (7) Ensures security of all Aviation Ground Support Equipment (AGSE) prior to cessation of operations each day. (8) Assists aircraft mechanics during those periods in which there are no ongoing flight opertions or as directed by supervisor. Performs repairs to the aircraft that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling or replacing defective parts, accessories, and components such as worn gaskets, couplings, and fittings, bad actuators, accumulators, and gauges, sections of corroded fuel and oil lines, worn cable pulleys, frayed spark plug cables, and burned out landing lights. Completes needed repairs like those described above, and makes adjustments and settings such as cable tension, and seat movement settings and adjustments. (9) Performs such travel as nay be required in the accomplishment of assigned duties and the organizational mission. (10) Performs other duties as assigned. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED:
This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. E1; Military Grade inversion within the full time work forces is not permitted. The military grade of the full time supervisor must equal or exceed the military grade of the personnel supervised. Compatibility will be followed in accordance with 32 USC 709(b) and 10 USC 10216 Compatibility requirements must be met prior to appointment to the position. Selectee has 24 months to become qualified in a compatible military assignment. Security Clearance/Background Check requirements:
In order to comply with US DOD requirements and ensure the safety and security of the missions, programs, property and personnel of the Nebraska Military Department, employees must obtain the appropriate background investigation and maintain the level of security clearance assigned to their respective work. Failure to obtain, within one year of appointment, and maintain the designated type of security clearance/background check required for the respective work may result in a job offer being rescinded, separations of employment, or other actions as may be deemed in the best interest of the agency. Experience:
Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED
Experience:
WG-05 - 6 Months Experience in the use of common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision. Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade. WG-08 - 12 Months Experience in the use of common hand tools to make mechanical repairs. Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance. Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.
